The Difference?
We’re Teachers Who Tutor.

Our Story

Office Hours started in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, in 2015. Office Hours Founder, Joe Petrone, was several years into his teaching career at a high achieving public high school, and beginning to incorporate ACT test taking strategies into the math and science curriculum. While there were a handful of regional and national tutoring companies available to support students, upon further research he realized many of these companies employed college students and people who had zero teaching experience. They also felt impersonal, and there seemed to be no individualization–programs were a “one size fits all.”

As a general education and a special education teacher, Joe knew many groups of learners were being missed. That’s why he created Office Hours.

Today, Office Hours serves clients across the country, through eight grades, and of various learning abilities, including students with special needs.

While Office Hours has evolved, our commitment to individualized tutoring (whether it be in math, test prep, or college counseling) has not.

We only hire tutors who have served at least five years in schools as certified teachers.  Why? Because being an effective tutor isn’t just about having knowledge or expertise in the content, it’s also about knowing how to convey academic material to all different types of students effectively.

Finally, we know that private tutoring has historically been exclusive to populations of lower socioeconomic status, color, and students with disabilities.  With experience teaching in diverse communities, training in Restorative Justice and Beyond Diversity, as well as a background in special education, we’re here to level the playing field so that all groups have access to quality tutoring.
